Both
graduate and undergraduate students are an integral part of faculty
research. This area describes what type of research opportunities exist
and describes the ongoing research projects. We have 10 research
faculty members, and most faculty collaborate with other IUPUI Schools
on their research, common collaborations include the School of
Dentistry, School of Medicine, and School of Liberal Arts.
Additionally, faculty often collaborate to share resources available at
other universities across the U.S.
Our
research program crosses the spectrum of the earth sciences and crosses
the globe. We not only study problems in Central Indiana, but other
areas of the U.S., the ocean, and other continents. Active research
groups reflect not only the interests of our faculty, but also the
interests of our graduate students and the needs for research and
training on local to global scales.
Both
graduate and undergraduate student research can be supported by
funding, see our funding
page for more information on opportunities.

Centers at IUPUI allow for collaboration to meet objects towards service, research, and education that cross department and school boundaries. The
Department of Earth Science is associated with:
The Center for
Earth and Environmental Science facilitates collaborative
environmental science research with community, industry and government
partners with a focus on the State of Indiana, the Midwest, and beyond.
The Center for Environmental Health reduces the burden of human illness and dysfunction from environmental causes by
understanding each of these elements and how they interrelate. Read more how the Department of Earth Science relates to the Center for Environmental Health.
The Urban Center for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education (UCASE) a joint effort between the Schools of Science and Education at IUPUI. The Department's newly funded project titled “Students as Mentors and Owners of Geoscience and Environmental Education (SMOGEE)” is one of the first joint efforts of this new center.
